Lalbaba College Admission 2023: All applicants who are deemed qualified under the policies of Calcutta University and the college standards established by the Admission Sub Committee are eligible for online admission to the first-year classes. The precise dates for online application are announced on the college notice board, website, and other places as soon as the Higher Secondary Examination results are released. In this college, student admission is solely determined by merit, the availability of seats, and the completion of specific requirements.
Lalbaba College is ideally located next to Grand Trunk Road, so regular bus services are another option for getting there. Due to the fact that this college is attended by both Bengali and Hindi-speaking families, its students offer a metropolitan and international perspective. Since the majority of the students come from middle-class and lower-middle-class households, the college lacks an air of aristocracy.
LalBaba College Admission 2023
The Lalbaba college provides full-time 3-year degree programmes leading to bachelor's degrees in the humanities, the sciences, and business through the University of Calcutta. Literature courses in Bengali, English, Hindi, Sanskrit, and Urdu, as well as Social Sciences courses in history, philosophy, political science, and education, are provided in Bachelor of Arts programmes in both Honors and General formats.
The Bachelor of Science programme offers both general and honours courses in mathematics, geography, and economics. Only General Courses are offered in physics and chemistry at Lalbaba College. For Bachelor of Commerce students, there is also the option of doing an Honors course in Accounting and Finance.
Approximately 4,000 students, more than 80 instructors, and more than 20 non-teaching staff members make up the staff of Lalbaba College. Over the years, it has developed into a seminary for contemporary study. The district of Howrah, where the institution is located in, as well as the nearby agricultural belt of the district of Hooghly, make up the college's catchment area. Although it was initially just intended to encourage higher education among the local kids, over the past ten years, its hinterland of student involvement has significantly risen.
Lalbaba College Admission Process for General Courses
Only the top four subjects' grades, in the order the candidate received them, will be taken into account for admission to the general course. The computation of the final grade does not include grades earned in required environmental education or studies. If Environmental Science is studied as an optional subject worth 100 points, it may be considered when calculating the overall grade.
A candidate who has successfully completed the Higher Secondary (10+2) or its equivalent Examination with a score of at least 35% is eligible to apply for admission to the 3-year, semester-based BA/B.Com/B.Sc General Course of Studies, provided the candidate has also completed English with a score of at least 100%.
Candidates for the 3-year, semester-based BA/B.Com, a general course of studies may apply if they have received at least a 35% passing grade in the Higher Secondary (10+2) Vocational Examination administered by the West Bengal Council of Vocational Education and Training.
Candidates seeking admission to the 3-year, semester-based B.Com General Course of Studies must have at least a 35% passing grade in Business and Commerce at the Higher Secondary Examination (10+2). Additionally, he must succeed in any of the following courses:
Accountancy, Business Economics including Business Mathematics, Business Organisation, Economics, Statistics, Commerce, Accounts, Business Studies, Financial Accounting, Office and Secretarial Practice, Elements of Cost Accountancy and Auditing, Business Mathematics, Cost Accountancy & Principle of Management, Commercial Law and preliminaries of Auditing, Costing and Taxation.
The semester-based 3-year BA/B.Com Honors and General Courses are also open to applicants who have completed the Higher Secondary Examination (10+2) in the Science Stream in addition to the B.Sc Honors and General Courses.
If a candidate has completed the Higher Secondary Examination (10+2) given by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or its equivalent exam, they are eligible to pursue Honors in Economics.
Students who have graduated from the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education's Higher Secondary (10+2) programme with a passing grade in Business Economics and Business Mathematics are also eligible for admission to the Honors Course in Economics.
Admission Process For Lalbaba College Honors Courses
In order to determine if a candidate is eligible for admission to the honours programme, the candidate's aggregate marks are determined by averaging their scores in each of their top four disciplines.

The terms "Subject" or "related subject" for the B.Com Honors Course in "Accounting and Finance" should imply the following:
- Accounting, Business Economics, including Business Mathematics, Business Organization, Mathematics, Business Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, Business Studies, Office and Secretarial Practice, Financial Accounting, Elements of Cost Accountancy and Auditing, Bookkeeping, Commerce, Cost Accountancy & Principle of Management, Commercial Law, and preliminary Auditing, Costing, and Taxation are some of the subjects covered in this course.
The Education related subjects are philosophy, math, sociology, economics, political science, history, statistics, physics, chemistry, and biology should all be considered connected.
The Philosophy subjects are psychology, mathematics, education, sociology, and political science should be considered to be connected.
The Mathematics Honors Course does not admit candidates who have passed in business mathematics.
Candidates for the Economics Honors programme are required to choose Mathematics as one of their optional courses. The fields of mathematics, business mathematics, and business economics are viewed as being closely connected.
The All India Boards/Councils (CBSE, ISC, and National Institute of Open Schooling) do not require students to present a migration certificate in order to register at Calcutta University if they have passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination or its equivalent.
Lalbaba College Admission Eligibility Criteria
An applicant for an honours course in a subject must possess the following:
- At the last qualifying examination, a minimum of 45% in the subject or closely related subject and 50% overall was required.
- Or 55% on the subject or a closely similar subject in the prior qualifying exam (restricted to B.Com Honors Courses).
- If the candidate did not take the subject in their prior qualifying examination and all other conditions are met (Only for B.A./B.Sc Honors Courses),50% of the total marks.
However, candidates from Schedule Caste or Scheduled Tribe Communities enrolling in an honours programme must have received at least 40% overall or 40% in the subject or related subject in the prior qualifying examination, depending on the situation.
Documents Required for LalBaba College Admission
If chosen, students must apply for admission through the Lalbaba official website within the allotted period after the merit list is published. Application fees can be paid at the bank through online mode. Following complete payment of the admission fee, the following papers must be provided together with self-attested photocopies for verification at the college counter. The date of the document verification will be announced on the college website and by SMS to the accepted students.
- A downloadable, hard-copy, signed copy of your admission application; two current, passport-sized photos.
- Self-attested photocopies of both sides of your transcripts for all previously passed exams.
- Self-attested photocopies of birth certificates or other acceptable age verification documents, such as Madhyamik or similar admit cards.
- Self-attested photocopies of the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, or Other Backward Caste Certificates from relevant Government Officers.
- Self-attested photocopies of the Registration Certificates from candidates who have already registered with Calcutta University.
- Candidates coming from schools or boards outside of West Bengal, they must provide a self-attested photocopy of their migration certificate. Candidates who are physically disabled and seeking to be placed in the reserved category must present the appropriate PWD certificates issued by the relevant authority that meet the following requirements:
officer-in-charge or medical director of primary health centres, block primary health centres, state general hospitals, rural hospitals, sub-divisional hospitals, district hospitals, or any hospital managed by a statutory body or authority.
If an Income and Asset Certificate in the required format is issued by
- Block Development Officers for rural regions.
- Sub-Divisional Officers for municipalities, and
- DWO, Kolkata for KMC areas, then the advantage of reservation under the EWS can be utilized.
LalBaba College Scholarships
The college supports financial aid provided by the state government to students for higher education. Through conditional cash transfers, Kanyasree Prakalpa aims to promote the well-being of girl students, particularly those from socioeconomically challenged backgrounds, so they can stay in school for longer. For the financial advantage of the college's students from the lower socioeconomic classes, the college has also registered to receive the advantages of the BCW Department's SC/ST/OBC Post Matric Scholarship.
Additionally, the Samajik Suraksha Yojana of the Labour Department, the Government of West Bengal, and the Chief Minister's Relief Fund are available to students. In order to help deserving students from economically disadvantaged households pursue higher education, the college also offers the Swami Vivekananda Merit-cum-Means Scholarship.
