St Stephen's College, Admission: St. Stephen’s College was started on February 1, 1881, in Delhi by the Cambridge Mission and the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel. It began as an extension of St. Stephen’s School, which had been running since 1854. Teachers from Cambridge came to help with the school in 1877, and when the government closed its Delhi College in 1879, St. Stephen’s College was set up to provide higher education. Samuel Scott Allnutt, one of the Cambridge teachers, became the first Principal and led both the school and the college for a time.
