About:
The Government of West Bengal set up an expert Committee on December 31, 1998, under the chairmanship of Dr. Ashesh Prasad Mitra, Scientist Eminence, to explore the necessity and scope for the establishment of a district Engineering and Technology University in the state of West Bengal. Following an in-depth review of the status and issues of technical education at the degree and higher level in the country and in the state of West Bengal, the committee observed that the facilities for technical education at the degree level in West Bengal required enhancement. The existing and forthcoming engineering and technology colleges badly needed the support and guidance of a full-fledged centralized Technological University for the growth and improvement of quality technological education.
