It is affiliated with Madurai Kamaraj University and has an A+ grade from NAAC. The college is run by the Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy Foundation (SLF),a charitable trust started in 1989 by Dr. R. Lakshmipathy. He is well-known in the newspaper industry as the publisher of the popular Tamil daily "Dinamalar" and medical magazines "The Antiseptic" and "Health." SLCS became the youngest self-financing college in South Tamil Nadu to get autonomy in 2006. Since then, it has created its own study programs and modern teaching methods to help students become job-ready. The college has completed 25 years and is in its fifth cycle of NAAC accreditation.
