Indian Agricultural Research Inst Admission: The Indian Agricultural Research Institute, also known as the Pusa Institute, started its journey in 1905 in Pusa, Bihar. It was made possible by a generous donation of 30,000 pounds from Henry Phipps, a kind American who loved to support important causes. Initially called the Agricultural Research Institute (ARI),it had five departments: Agriculture, Cattle Breeding, Chemistry, Economic Botany (studying plants people use daily),and Mycology (focused on fungi, like mushrooms). In 1907, a new unit for Bacteriology (the study of tiny organisms called bacteria) was added. Over time, the institute’s name changed. It became the Imperial Institute of Agricultural Research in 1911 and later the Imperial Agricultural Research Institute in 1919. The term “Imperial” was used because India was under British rule back then.
After a massive earthquake hit Bihar in 1934, the institute relocated to Delhi in 1936. Finally, when India gained independence in 1947, it was renamed the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), the name it proudly holds today!
