Founded in 1947 (the year India gained independence),it began in a small hall with 86 students and 7 teachers, later moving to its peaceful, scenic campus in 1952. The university was built with support from local leaders, including its first principal, Padmadhar Chaliha, and his son Paragdhar who followed him. Over time, it grew from a small college into a respected institution, changing affiliations from Gauhati University to Dibrugarh University in 1965. Its motto, “quest for light,” reflects its mission to spread knowledge and inspire learning. Today, it is known for dedicated teachers, strong academics, and a proud legacy tied to Assam’s history.
