Patna College, Admission: Patna College, the oldest in Bihar and among the earliest in India, began as Patna High School in 1835. It was started with help from both the British and Indians. In 1839, Governor-General Lord Auckland wanted a college in Patna, so the school became a college in 1844. But it closed after two years due to low interest. Efforts to reopen it in the 1850s failed because of disagreements, and the school finally shut down in 1858.
