Lady Willingdon, Admission: Lady Willingdon Institute of Advanced Study in Education is a teacher training college in Triplicane, Chennai, just 3 km from Fort St. George, the office of the Tamil Nadu Government. It was started in 1922 and was named after Lady Willingdon, the wife of the then Governor of Madras. The first principal, Miss J.M. Gerrard, dreamed of a beautiful building shaped like the letter ‘W’ facing the sea. With the help of a Scottish architect, this dream came true when the college moved into its new building in 1940. The college is located on 16 acres of land and has a great view of the famous Marina Beach. It is also surrounded by important places like the University of Madras, Presidency College, Queen Mary’s College, and the Santhome Cathedral Church.
