kongunadu arts college, Admission: Coimbatore, a growing industrial city, needed more colleges in the 1970s, so Kongunadu Arts and Science College was started on August 12, 1973. The idea came during a 1972 event where local leaders and educationists like Dr. M. Aruchami and others wanted to start a college to help the community. Many important people and farmers donated money and support to build the college. Dr. M. Aruchami, the first principal and a founder, guided the college with strong leadership, and now his daughter, Dr. C. A. Vasuki, is the secretary. The college is located in a quiet area near the city and is easy to reach by bus. It started small but now offers many courses, including research programs, with about 5,000 students, most from weaker sections of society. Over 60% of the students are girls, helping with women’s empowerment. The college earned autonomous status in 2004-05 and has received top grades and awards for excellence from national education bodies.
