J. D. Birla Institute Admission: The J.D. Birla Institute (JDBI) was established in 1962 by Sushila Devi Birla, the wife of industrialist L.N. Birla, and named after her mother-in-law, Jawahari Devi Birla. Initially founded as a college for girls to provide scientific education in home science, it aimed to fill a gap for young women from conservative families in Calcutta. Over the years, the Institute expanded its courses and scope, adding a Department of Commerce in 1997 and a co-educational Department of Management in 2002. In 2009, new undergraduate and postgraduate courses were introduced, such as Food Science, Fashion Studies, and Interior Designing. By 2013, the Home Science Programme was replaced with an M.Com course, reflecting the changing educational needs.

Today, JDBI is highly regarded among India’s higher education institutions and has received top rankings from agencies like India Today and Times Magazine. It earned the highest grade of "A" from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2010 for its commitment to excellence.
