Indian Statistical Institute Admission: In 1931, it all started as a small room in Presidency College. Today, it has grown into a massive institution spread across several acres of land in four big cities: Kolkata, New Delhi, Bangalore, and Hyderabad. Back in 1931, the entire yearly budget was less than Rs. 250, but now, it spends over Rs. 15,000,000 every year! In the beginning, there was only one person working part-time, almost like a human "computer." Now, the institution has more than 250 faculty members, over 1,000 support staff, and many modern computers of all kinds—personal computers, workstations, minicomputers, supermini computers, and mainframe computers! While these numbers are impressive, they don’t fully show how much the institution has grown, the challenges it has faced, or the wide range of activities it has taken on over the years.
