It was started in 1939, thanks to the hard work and dreams of Mrs. Rajabala Das, who was a leader in promoting education for women. The college was also made possible by the generous support of Radha Kanta Handique, a philanthropist who helped create the first institution for higher education for women in the undivided state of Assam.
