GACC, Ahmedabad, Admission: Established in 1856 through the efforts of Sir T.C. Hope and generous contributions from Ahmedabad’s citizens, the first college in Ahmedabad—and Gujarat—faced early struggles, including low enrollment and temporary closure in 1872. Revived in 1884 with municipal support and recognized by the University of Bombay, the college soon expanded and moved to a spacious 30-acre campus in 1897, marking its emergence as a prominent center of higher education in western India.
