Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi M M College Admission: G.S.V.M. Medical College in Kanpur is famous for its excellent teaching and is named after Shri Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi, a brave freedom fighter who died during communal violence in 1931. It was the first medical college in Uttar Pradesh after India became independent and started in November 1955. The college is one of five medical colleges set up during India’s second five-year plan. The foundation stone was laid by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, India’s first President, in April 1956. The first principal of the college was Dr. S.N. Mathur.
