Institute of Jute Technology Admission: In July 1854, the East India Company's Court of Directors sent a message to the Governor-General of India. They suggested setting up universities in Calcutta, Madras, and Bombay. Following this suggestion, the University of Calcutta was established on January 24, 1857. At first, the university followed the model of the University of London. Over time, it made changes to its structure to better suit its needs.
