Bangabasi College Kolkata Admission: Bangabasi College was established in 1887 by Acharya Girish Chandra Bose with inspiration from Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar to provide quality education and promote nationalism during British rule. It began as Bangabasi School in 1885 with a few teachers and students and later expanded to offer higher education courses. The college moved to its current location in 1903 and introduced Honours courses in Arts and Science, becoming known for its strong academic standards. Students of the college actively participated in India’s freedom movement, including the Quit India Movement of 1942, which is still remembered as "Quit India Day" at the college. After independence, it expanded into three branches—Morning College, Evening College, and College of Commerce—and became co-educational in 1979. In 2005, postgraduate studies in Zoology were introduced. The college celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1987, honoring its legacy of excellence and its many notable alumni.
