A cowshed has been built at Delhi College's women's hostel, alleging students.

An animal protection and research center set up at Hansraj College at Delhi University have drawn students' ire. They claim it is located on a site meant for women's hostels.

Rama Sharma, the college principal, said there is a cow at the center to conduct research, but it is not a cow shelter.

"The architects saw the land and told us it was a setback area, so a hostel cannot be built there," she said. "The women's hostel is my dream project so that they will analyze a suitable place for it."

A group of students at Hansraj College called the Students' Federation of India (SFI) have alleged that a 'gaushala' has been built on the site of a women's hostel, dubbed as "Swami Dayanand Cow-Protection and Research Center."

Our college administration asked for full and bulk fees when colleges closed because of the pandemic, despite most families experiencing economic hardship. Now imagine our surprise when we learn that while the campus has been shut, the college has finished the construction of a full-fledged 'gaushala' without any warning or discussion with the student community," they alleged.

They would vigorously campaign against this decision and demand that the 'gaushala' be demolished, and the long-awaited women's hostel be built.
