Veterinary Council of India (VCI) is a legalized body that looks after the veterinary practices throughout the country. Formed in 1984, It falls under the Ministry of Agriculture and Government of India. The headquarter of Veterinary Council of India is situated in New Delhi. Veterinary Council Act, 1984 has taken the initiative to control the Veterinary Council of India. Members were nominated for the first time under Veterinary Council of India in 1989. The first election, however, happened in 1999. Department of Animal Husbandary and Dairying under the category of Ministry of Agriculture helps the council to obtain the finance from the available allowances.
Structure of Veterinary Council of India
There is a total of 27 members in the Veterinary Council of India. Out of which, 14 are nominated,11 are elected and two belong to ex-officio category. The structure of the election of the members are provided below:-
- Central Government to appoint five members amidst the Directors of Animal Husbandry to the direction where the act expands.
- Central Government appoints four members amidst the lead of Veterinary institutions in the region where the act stretches.
- Indian Council of Agriculture Research designate one member as a part of Veterinary Council of India
- Central Government designates one member to stand for the Ministry of Central Government in order to handle Animal Husbandry.
- Central Government appoints one member amidst the President of the respective state to which the act stretches.
- Eleven members are picked amidst the person registered in the Indian Veterinary Practitioners Register.
The goal of the Veterinary Council of India
The idea is to observe and take care of veterinary practices throughout the country. Veterinary Council of India (VCI) serves the following purpose.:-
- To control veterinary training in India.
- To form rules and regulations.
- To put down the required standards of education for the acknowledgement of the veterinary degree.
- To have a professional attitude, etiquettes as well as good conduct in order to be noted by the veterinary practitioners.
