MCI

The Medical Council of India (MCI) is a legalised body that aims at providing the best medical education. The legalised body gives acknowledgement to a medical degree, certifies medical schools, permits recording to medical professionals and checks medical scheme throughout the country. Dr Jayshreeben Mehta is serving as a president of MCI lately. Medical Council of India (MCI) has been replaced with the National Medical Commission. (NMC) The initiative was made by the Central government on receiving permission from the supreme court. The suggestion of replacing the Medical Council of India (MCI) with the National Medical Commission (NMC) was given by the NITI Aayog. The NMC took the place of MCI after it was accepted by the majority of the states. It was finally passed by the parliament on 8th August 2019. 

Historical Overview

The Medical Council of India (MCI) first came into force in 1934 in accordance with the Medical Council Act, 1933. This act was, however, reconstructed under the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956. The previous council act was replaced by the president of India but the charge was assigned to the Board of Governors. The council is functioning today as well all over India. 

Roles of the MIC

There are various roles of Medical Council of India. (MCI) The motive is to deliver superior medical practices for programs ranging from graduate to postgraduate level. Courses like MBBS and BDS are offered in plenty of institutions. These institutions should, however, be recognized by Medical Council of India. (MCI) The roles of MCI are as follows:-

• It determines and handles even regulations for undergraduate medical education.
• To sustain the postgraduation medical degree in certified medical colleges. 
• Acknowledgement of a medical degree permitted by University or UGC in medical colleges throughout the country.
• Provides importance to an overseas medical degree in India.
• Certified medical colleges
• Keeping a record of the doctors with a reputed medical degree.
• Maintains a list of all registered doctors.

MCI Online

MCI Online provides the platform to the doctors to register for professional certificates and a medical degree. It is a web-based gateway dealing with millions of applications from doctors who wish to register themselves online. One can also find the list of registered doctors on this portal.
