AICTE

The All India Council for Technical Education is the statutory body and a national-level council for technical education, under Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development. Technical Education has been gaining importance all over India. It has been benefitting our nation for long. It is known to provide education in all domain- Graduate, Postgraduate, Diploma, Certificate, post-doctoral and so on.  All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) came into force in November 1945 with a perspective to foster technical education. It is a legal body that falls under the division of the Department of Higher Education. AICTE was officially legalized in 1987 by the Act of Parliament. The duties of AICTE range from designing to supervising the content in technical education. This process is followed in India with the head office situated in the heart of Delhi. It also gets a helping hand from other divisions of boards. Such boards include U.G Studies in English and Technology, P.G and Research in English and Technology, Management Studies, Architecture, etc. The regional office of AICTE is also present in cities like Mumbai, Chandigarh, Bangalore, Hyderabad, etc. The headquartered city, Delhi, has offices of chairman, and vice-chairman respectively.  It is assisted by 10 Statutory Boards of Studies, namely, UG Studies in Eng. & Tech., PG and Research in Eng. and Tech., Management Studies, Vocational Education, Technical Education, Pharmaceutical Education, Architecture, Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Information Technology, Town and Country Planning.   

What are the goals of AICTE?

The AICTE is responsible for designing, drafting, and holding onto standards and regulations. The process of School accreditation must be carried out to check quality assurance. The main motive of AICTE is to sustain equality of certificates and awards and make sure that it focuses on developing technical education. It works on the growth and progress of technical education. This is necessary to ensure that rules and regulations in technical education are carried out properly. AICTE is an important concept throughout India.  

AICTE Department

The head of the AICTE department is the advisor who gets support from some technical officers. These technical officers are hired on the basis of a contract or commission received from the University Grants Commission.  The department under AICTE are as follows:-

  • Finance Department
  • Administration Department
  • Approval Department
  • University Department
  • Planning and Coordination Department
  • E-Governance Department

Amendments

AICTE has taken three leads in the past.  Firstly, the duty was assigned by MHRD to grow Swayam,  a recognized national MOOCs platform. The second lead talks about introducing Smart India Hackathon-2017. The introduction was planned to contest the sharp students to figure out the 598 problems pertaining to 29 diverse technical academies. The third lead highlights the initiative of Start-Up Policy of the student belonging to AICTE. Due to certain reasons, the Union Minister wanted AICTE and its associated bodies to shut down. Thereafter, one noticed a change in the way AICTE functions. AICTE is still a working body used for promoting and improving technical education.
